Parts Used: Tuberous root

Sources

Grown in Honnan. Hopei and Mongloria of China. Collect in Spring and Fall. Processed with wine, orange peel and cardamom. Repeat steam and dry until they turn into a bright black color with soft and oily quality.

Rehmannin, mannitol, sucrose, amino acid, Vit. A, catalpol.

Use Recommendations

Anemia, dizziness, palpitation, insomnia, seminal emission, menorrhagia and diabetes.

Effects

Prepared Rehmannia root has action on heart, decreases of blood sugar and is a diuretic. Experiments indicate that Rehmannia also have anti-rheumatic and anticancer effects.

Dosage

9 – 30gm.

Contraindications

Because of its greasy character, it is not to use to a person with indigestion, diarrhea or fullness of abdomen.

Interesting facts

Rehmannia can be used without processing. The raw form of rehmannia called Dry or fresh Rehmannia (Sheng Di Huang) which used with direct cut from the root of the plant. Raw or fresh Rehmannia have different pharmaceutical actions which can cool the heat in the blood by producing more fluids. Prepared rehmannia, on the other hand, has a strengthen action to the body especially the blood formation. These two herbs came from the same spices of plant but providing different effects. In fact, they are classified into two different categories in Chinese herbology.
