SAM-e
Produced and consumed in the liver, S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is a natural compound found in nearly every fluid and body tissue. SAM-e transfers methyl groups and may combat mood disorders, such as depression. The natural compound regulates the metabolism of the neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin in the brain. Reports show that people who suffer from depression have lower amounts of SAM-e in their spinal code.
SAM-e is widely used throughout Europe and has been under intense research, especially as a side effect for many SSRI drugs. In a new report, SSRIs seem to increase the risk of suicidal thoughts in children.
